Do You Have To Be 55 Or Older To Live In A 55+ Community?

Do you have to be 55 or older to live in a 55+ community? This is a question I receive from home buyers nearly every day.

According to every 55+ HOA or property management company that I’ve spoken to, here in the Palm Springs desert area, the answer is yes.

There are a couple of exceptions. If your spouse is at least 45, they can live with you in a 55+ community, or if you have a legitimate care giver, they can live with you if they are under 55+. Those are the only exceptions I’ve ever heard of.

In addition, you can buy a home in a 55+ community at any age, you just can’t live in the 55+ community until you are at least 55. I get this question a lot, too.

If you are over 55+, please call me to see any active adult, senior, retirement home currently for sale on the MLS links below.
