Every time I get a new listing, the seller asks me if I think they should donate their furniture or try to sell the home with the furniture. My answer is almost always the same. Donate it.
If your furniture is new or beautiful, it will absolutely help sell your home. But if your furniture is new or beautiful, you won’t want to include it in the sale, but every buyer will want it included in the sale. Because of this, furnishings can often complicate or kill a deal.
On the other hand, if your furnishings are old, outdated and unappealing, they will not help sell the home and the buyer will not want to have the burden of removing your unwanted furnishings after the sale. This can also complicate and sometimes kill a deal.
So, my advice is, donate your old and outdated furnishings, before we list it for sale. Your home will show better and not cause a problem for buyers down the road. Below is a list of some of the many charitable organizations that accept donations. Most offer free pick up, as well. You can Google other organizations, or consignment shops, if your furnishings are valuable and you don’t plan to keep them or leave them for the new owner.
